How to protect harddrive(s) ?
Before protecting a harddrive with AbsoluteLock, it would be a good idea to deactivate the BIOS "Virus Alert Warning", because AbsoluteLock needs to directly access your harddrive. Anyway, if you don't switch it off, AbsoluteLock will tell you to do so.
Please also notice that AbsoluteLock does not work with some installed bootmanagers, but you can always try out AbsoluteLock, because if *anything* goes wrong, you can simply boot from the RescueDisk which is created when you protect a harddisk and everything will be restored to normal again.
In fact, AbsoluteLock is so easy to use, that you don't really need to read the following steps, but just for the case, here is the detailed description :
Step 1: "Running AbsoluteLock"
First of all run the program "ABSLOCK.EXE"

Step 2: "General information screen"
AbsoluteLock will now display a few general information on the program itself, simply press the "RETURN" key

Step 3: "Main Menu"
You now entered the main menu, choose "Protect Harddrive!" with the cursor keys, then press "RETURN"

Step 4: "Choose Harddisk Menu"
You are prompted to choose which harddisk(s) you want to protect. Use the cursor keys to move and the "SPACEBAR" to select a harddisk, as soon as you are finish selecting, press "RETURN"

Step 5: "Confirmation prompt"
This screen will show you the harddisk(s) you have selected and prompts for "Y" to continue and "N" to go back

Step 6: "RescueDisk Creation"
For your own safety a RescueDisk will now be created with which you can easily remove an existing protection if something went wrong.
Please notice :
If you started AbsoluteLock within Windows NT or Windows 2000, a bootdisk will first be created and AbsoluteLock will tell you to boot from this bootdisk before continueing with the protection process.

Step 7: "Password Prompt"
AbsoluteLock will ask you for a password which will be used for encrypted and which must be entered correctly and case sensitive every time your system boots.

Step 8: "Protection Process"
The final protection process gets executed, where your selected harddrive(s) will be protected.
You will then be told to reboot your computer to make the changes visible.

How to uninstall AbsoluteLock ?
If you decide to remove an installed protection done by AbsoluteLock, you can :
- Start ABSLOCK.EXE (either from protected harddisk or booted by floppy) and select "Restore Protection". Then enter your password to remove it
- Boot from the RescueDisk which has been created by AbsoluteLock and choose one method of removing it (the RescueDisk can also be used to restore AbsoluteLock if your system doesn't start correctly anymore or if you lost your password)

Additional hints
- As you can imagine, it would be a nice idea to hide away your RescueDisk because it can be used to deprotect your system without entering a password
- All entered passwords are case sensitive and all function keys can be uses for the password except of ESC, RETURN or BACKSPACE KEY
- Strange cylinder/head/sector values can appear if you run AbsoluteLock under Windows NT or Windows 2000 (this does not affect the working of the program in any way).
